Men's Basketball Falls Short Against Husson in Season Finale

BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Husson University, 75-58 on Saturday afternoon inside of Newman Gymnasium.

With the loss the Mariners conclude their season at 1-3 overall. The Eagles improve to 7-0 on the season and will play UMaine-Fort Kent next weekend.

How it Happened: After battling closely to start the game, the Eagles used a 13-point run to take a 23-10 lead with 9:09 to play in the first half and another seven-point run to extend their lead to 35-15 with just under six minutes to go. The Mariners hit back-to-back shots to end the half and cut the deficit to 42-27.

The Mariners fought back and closed the gap to eight on a number of occasions in the second half, but the Eagles hovered around a double-digit lead for most of the half and claimed the 75-58 win.

Inside the Numbers: First-year Cameron Gerlach (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the Mariners with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and a steal, while both Drew Price (Tampa, Fla.) and Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) also recorded 11 points. Price added two rebounds and two steals, while Reincke contributed six rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Senior Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) capped off his career with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Scott Lewis led the Eagles with 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist, Cam Wood tallied 11 points and four rebounds, while both Isaac Varney and Justin Thompson contributed 10 points. Varney also added a game-high seven rebounds.

The Mariners shot 40.4 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, while the Eagles shot 45.5 percent overall and 40.0 percent from three. The Eagles held a 37-26 advantage in rebounds.
