Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime volleyball defeated UMaine-Fort Kent 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 29-27) on Saturday morning in thrilling non-conference action.
How it Happened: The Bengals won a close first set over the Mariners 20-25. The Mariners continued to come back from behind in a back-and-forth second set to win 25-23. The Mariners took the last two sets holding a 12-9 and 17-9 advantage in kills to win the match.
Inside the Numbers: The Mariners were led by Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) with 29 kills while adding nine digs and an assist. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) was also impressive for the Mariners with 42 assists and adding 19 digs, three kills, and two aces.
Danea Ford, Allora Somonton, Abigail Thompson all led the Bengals with nine kills each. Halle Ham led the team with 23 digs, while Beatriz Garrido recorded a team-high 16 assists and added eight digs.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 3-2 on the year, and will return to action, Saturday September 18th at Rivier College to face both Westfield State and Rivier College starting at 1:00 pm.
