Box Score CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer picked up a strong 3-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Mariners opened up the scoring early when Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) finished a corner kick from Payje Leclerc (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) in the eighth minute to give Maine Maritime a 1-0 lead, which held through halftime.
Sierra Hoops (Houlton, Maine) extended the Mariners lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute when she buried a free kick cross from Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine). Catherine Swift (Lunenburg, Mass.) tacked on a late goal when she deflected the ball past Roos keeper Skylar Williams in the 86th minute to round out the Mariners scoring.
Inside the Numbers: Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine) went untested in net to earn the win for the Mariners, while Williams had five saves for the Roos. Maine Maritime outshot SUNY Canton 13-0 and held an 8-1 advantage in corners.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in the NAC, while the Roos fall to 0-4-1 and 0-1 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Sunday, September 26 when compete against NVU-Johnson on the road at 12:00pm.
