Box Score JOHNSON, VT – Maine Maritime women's soccer beat NVU-Johnson 6-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened: Sierra Hoops (Houlton, Maine) opened up the scoring early for the Mariners in the second minute off a ball from Jillian Holden (Madison, Maine) to give Maine Maritime a 1-0 led. Suzanne Wooldridge (Corona, Calif.) added back-to-back goals in the 13th and 19th minute and Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) recorded her first career goal in the 43rd minute to give the Mariners a 4-0 led into halftime.
The Mariners started off the second half strong with a goal from MacKenzie Carter (Ashland, Maine) assisted by Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) in the 47th minute. Bern added a goal of her own assisted by Kirra Magaña (Miami, Fla.) in the 57th minute to round out the scoring for the Mariners. Dulce Nino scored for the Badgers in the 64th minute to make the final score, 6-1 in favor of Maine Maritime.
Inside the Numbers: Maine Maritime held a strong 22-5 advantage in shots and a 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine) tallied two saves on the day, while Grace Verner recorded five saves for the Badgers.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in conference, while NVU-Johnson falls to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference. Maine Maritime will return to action on Saturday, October 2 when they host Thomas College at 12:00 pm for a NAC matchup.
