Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball beat Thomas College, 76-44 Tuesday evening in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
How it Happened: The first quarter was extremely competitive, with both teams trading baskets. Kali Barber (Tampa, Fla.) ended the quarter on a three to give the Mariners a four point lead going into the second. The Mariners kept extending their lead, making the score 28-19 after Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) sunk a pair of foul shots with 5:13 left in the half. The Terriers then went on a 14-2 run to end the first half, taking a 33-30 lead over the Mariners.
Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) nailed a three point shot to start the second half and sparked a 13-0 run to give the Mariners a 43-33 point lead with 6:14 on the clock. The Mariners then went on another run to make the score 55-38 going into the fourth. The Mariners continued to hold their advantage over the Terriers, holding them to only six points in the quarter to claim a 76-44 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Barela led the Mariners with 15 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Makenzie Monzon (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 points, five assists, and two rebounds. Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine) chipped in 12 points and Plissey added another 11 points to the mix.
Thomas was led by Kaylee Ravagli who had a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Samantha Fortin and Anna Piirainen both added eight points.
The Mariners shot 42.6% from the floor and 37.9% from three point land, while Thomas College shot 32.7% from the hardwood and 26.7% from beyond the arc.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in conference, while the Terriers falls to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, January 21 at 5:30pm when they host UMaine-Presque Isle in a NAC matchup.
