Mariners Land Four Players in Double-Digits in Loss to Mules

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's basketball fell to Colby College, 84-69 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

How it Happened: After trading baskets early in the game, the Mules scored 13 unanswered points to make the score 19-6 with 11 minutes left in the first half. Colby College continued to put pressure on the Mariners, taking a 42-17 point lead into halftime.

Markus Ramirez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sparked the Mariner's offense with back-to-back three-pointers to start the second half. The Mariners continued to cut down the lead when Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) hit a pair of foul shots to go on a 18-7 point run late in the second half to make the score 57-77 with four minutes left in regulation. The Mules continued to hold their advantage over the Mariners strong push at the end of the game, claiming an 84-69 point win.

Inside the Numbers: The Mariners were led by Cameron Gerlach (Hendersonville, Tenn.) who tallied 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Ramirez chipped in 15 points, two rebounds, and one assist, while Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) came off the bench recording a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds, in addition to two assists. Reincke also added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Noah Tyson led all scorers with 22 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one block. Kyle Butler added 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while David Stewart chipped in ten points.

The Mariners shot 45.5% from the floor and 27.8% from three point land, while the Mules shot 46.6% from the floor and 28.9% from beyond the arc.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-8 on the season, while Colby College improves to 7-4 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, January 5 when they host Bates College at 7:00pm in a non-conference matchup.
