Cobleskill, N.Y. – Maine Maritime women's basketball beat SUNY Cobleskill, 60-56 Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.

How it Happened: The first quarter had back-and-forth action between the Mariners and Fighting Tigers, with the Mariners coming out on top 14-13 going into the second quarter. Kali Barber (Tampa, Fla.) splashed a three pointer to spark a 10-3 run to make the score 26-20 with four minutes left in the half. Maine Maritime held the Fighting Tigers to four points in four minutes and Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) hit one of her two three pointers to bring the Mariners into the half with a 35-24 point lead.

The Fighting Tigers clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter, getting within one of the Mariners. Maine Maritime ended the quarter with five straight points and a six point lead. The fourth quarter continued to be back-and-forth between the two teams. SUNY Cobleskill got within three points with 3:19 left on the clock, then hit a jumper and three pointer to make the score 58-56 in favor of the Mariners. Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine) sunk two big foul shots with 00:06 seconds left on the clock to secure a 60-56 Maine Maritime victory.

Inside the Numbers: Cook led the Mariners with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Sydney Echevarria-Briscoe (Englewood, N.J.) came off the bench scoring ten points, six rebounds, and one block. Barela, Makenzie Monzon (Orlando, Fla.), and Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) all added eight points.

The Mariners shot 32.8% from the floor and 41.2% from three point land, while SUNY Cobleskill shot 37.1% from the hardwood and 25% from beyond the arc.

Up Next: The Mariners improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while SUNY Cobleskill falls to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, January 14 at 7:30pm against SUNY Canton in a conference matchup.
