ANNAPOLIS, MD – Maine Maritime Academy sailing finished ninth out of ten teams in the McMillian Cup this weekend.
Â
How it Happened: Mariner sailors were at the Naval Academy this past weekend, participating in two regattas; The McMillan Cup regatta, the oldest collegiate sailing event; and the Keelboat Invite, sailed in Colgate 26's. Saturday the breeze was light out of the Southeast, and insufficient on the McMillian Cup course for that area of the Chesapeake to hold any races. The Colgates were able to complete three races Saturday. On Sunday, the wind shifted to the North and there was sufficient breeze to hold both events. The McMillian Cup crew with Skipper
John Egger (Marion, Mass.),
Ella Beauregard (Southport Island, Maine),
Jonah Beasley, Kevin Carse (Clinton, Conn.),
Edward Lenz (Deep River, Conn.),
Henry Currier (Boothbay Harbor, Maine),
Nalu Ho (Lahaina, Hawaii),
Robert Jacobs (Denton, Md.) performed admirably in the shifty breeze and in their best race of the day scored in second place to finish ninth overall. In the Keelboat Invite; Skipper Zach York (Sewell, N.J.),
Courtney King (Camden, Maine),
Jacob Peabody (Southwest Harbor, Maine), and
Finn Weeden (Charlestown, R.I.) won the day on Sunday with two first, a second, a third, and fourth place finish to finish overall in 5th place. In the McMillan Cup, the University of Rhode Island's Rams took first place overall, and in the Keelboat invite the United States Naval Academy's Midshipmen took first place. Thank you to the Naval Academy for hosting two great events for our sailors.
