BOSTON, Mass. – Maine Maritime sailing participated in two regattas this weekend in the Boston area; The Lark Invite hosted by Tufts University, sailed on Upper Mystic Lake and the George Warren Smith Trophy Hosted by MIT, sailed on the Charles River.
Â
How it Happened: The sailors were greeted at both locations with light ENE winds of 3-5 knots, which made for some interesting sailing. At Tufts University, racing was postponed after the A Division start, to allow the breeze to fill in, at which point racing resumed when the wind shifted to NNE. Mariner sailors
Anna LaDue (Canterbury, N.H) and
Fox Fernald (Portland, Maine) sailed in the A Division and
Griffin Stolp (Arundel, Maine) and
Julianna DeMarco (West Chester, Pa.) sailed in the B Division. Both divisions were able to complete six races before the end of the day. Racing was called off on Sunday due to the forecast of high winds from the outer bands of Hurricane Ian approaching. The Mariners finished 11th of 13 teams.

Up Next: Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, October 8 – Sunday, October 9 at the Hewitt Invite hosted by Bowdoin College.
