Mariners Defeat Camels in Season Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – Maine Maritime women's basketball beat Connecticut College, 56-50 in their season opener Friday evening. Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with 13 points, shooting 70% from the floor, seven rebounds, two assists, and one block.
 
How it Happened: The Camels got off to a quick start against the Mariners, taking a three point lead after the first quarter. Maine Maritime's offense was sparked in the second quarter, as they went on a seven-point run to take a 30-24 lead going into the half.
 
The Mariners dominated the three quarter, holding the Camels to only six points. Connecticut College started to come back in the fourth quarter, getting within two points of Maine Maritime, but the Mariners held on with a made three from Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) and six straight foul shots to pull off the victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Plissey led the Mariners with 13 points, shooting 70% from the floor, seven rebounds, two assists, and one block.
  • Moore tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with six assists.
  • Sydney Briscoe (Englewood, N.J.) added 10 points and three rebounds.
  • Hallie O'Toole recorded 17 points and five rebounds for the Camels, while Rebecca Oberman-Levi rallied 14 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Maine Maritime shot 39.6% from the floor and 17.6% from three, while Connecticut College shot 26.7% from the hardwood and 25% from beyond the arc.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 1-0, while Connecticut College falls to 0-1. The Mariners return to action tomorrow, November 12 at 2:00pm against Brandeis University for the Championship matchup of the Judges Invitational Tournament.
