WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball began the weekend and conference play with an 89-43 win over Thomas.
Jacquelin Castro (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Mariners with 14 points, three rebounds, two steals, and one assist while shooting 80% from the floor.

How it Happened: After a sloppy first quarter, the Mariners came out with a renewed fire in the second. Maine Maritime jumped to a quick 19-point lead after not allowing any points until 3:31 remained in the quarter. By the end of the first half, Maine Maritime had a 41 to 25 lead.

The defensive pressure and all-around scoring effort continued in the beginning of the third quarter. With back-to-back 3 pointers from
Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) and
Maria Barela (Albuquerque, NM.), the lead was extended to 22 and continued to grow throughout the second half. The Mariners shot 90% from the foul line and 63% from behind the arc secure the 89-43 win over Thomas.

- Castro finished with 14 points, 3 rebounds, Â 2 steals, and one assist while shooting 80% from the floor.
- Moore added 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal.
- Barela and Grace Huntwork (Gretna, Neb..) both scored 12 points.
- Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) scored eight points, along with eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and two steals.
- Mia Henderson led Thomas in scoring with nine points.
- The Mariners shot 56% from the floor and 63% from three point land, while the Terriers shot 26% from the hardwood and 35% from beyond the arc.
