Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball fell to Husson University, 66-55 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinal matchup on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Mariners got off to a hot start when Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine) splashed a three to start up a 9-2 run for the Mariners. The Eagles answered with a couple baskets of their own, then the Mariners went on another eight point run when Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) hit two step-back threes and Kali Barber (Tampa, Fla.) hit a jumper. The quarter ended with the Mariners taking a 19-12 lead. The Eagles had a strong second quarter, going on a seven point run to take the lead. Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) hit a layup to tie the game back up and Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) splashed a three to give the Mariners a 30-27 lead at halftime.
The third quarter had a lot of back-and-forth action, with multiple lead changes. Plissey hit two foul shots at the end to give the Mariners a two advantage. The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mariners by 13 and claiming a 66-55 win.
Inside the Numbers: Moore led the Mariners with one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds, along with four assists, two steals, and one block. Cook added 12 points, one rebound, one steal, one assist, and a block, while Plissey chipped in 11 points, six rebounds, six blocks, and one assist.
