Mariners Fall to Badgers

JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime men's basketball fell to NVU-Johnson, 70-74 in a close North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
 
How it Happened: The Mariners and Badgers were extremely competitive in the first 10 minutes of action, with neither team winning by more than four points. After the 10-minute mark, the Badgers got hot, extending their lead to 23 points in seven minutes. The two teams went into half with the Badgers winning by 19 points.
 
In the second half, the Mariners slowly cut down the Badgers lead, getting within seven points multiple times during the half. Maine Maritime efforts were too little too late and the Badgers barely took a four point victory against the Mariners.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 20 rebounds, along with five assists and three blocks.
  • Josiah Dancy (Orlando, Fla.) also had 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
  • Connor Tuerff (Hendersonville, Tenn.) added 15 points, while Malachi Rencke (Houston, Texas) chipped in 12 points.
  • Yeskin Walker Williams recorded 19 points, while Maleek View added 16 points for the Badgers.
  • Maine Maritime shot38.8% from the hardwood and 25% from the three point line, while the Badgers shot 40.9% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc.
 
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in NAC play, while NVU-Johnson improved to 8-9 on the year and 3-4 in conference action. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:30pm against Thomas College in a NAC matchup.
