CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball team (3-2) earned their first win over the Bowdoin College Polar Bears (1-4) since the 1999-00 season with a 55-54 victory.

Isaiah Oquendo led all Mariners scoring 14 points. Oquendo also ended with eight rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Curt Heinz also had an impressive night for the Mariners ending the afternoon with a double-double off of 11 points and 15 rebounds. Heinz also had six assists, three blocks, and two steals.

The Mariners opened the contest strong, scoring the first five points unanswered. The Mariners held their lead for the entire first half, leading by as much as 12.

After a back and forth start to the second half with multiple lead changes and ties, the Mariners found themselves down by three with three and a half minutes left. A minute later,
Kaden Horner nailed a three to tie the game. After a missed layup from the Polar Bears, Horner sunk another jumper to regain the Mariners lead. Oquendo then hit two critical free throws that put the Mariners up by four with 15 seconds left.

The Polar Bears leading scorer, Michael Simonds, sunk a three at the end of the game to bring Bowdoin within one. Simonds ended with 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

The Mariners head on the road to Plymouth State University for a contest on Tuesday Nov. 21 at 5:00 pm.
