CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime wrestling got the Lance Moore era off to a 2-0 start with wins over the University of Maine and the University of New Hampshire Saturday night. The Mariners defeated the Wildcats 35-12 before wrapping up the night's action with a 48-0 win over the Black Bears. Maine (1-1) defeated New Hampshire (0-2) 29-12.

Maine Maritime ripped off seven-consecutive pins to take every contested weight class and then collected a forfeit at heavyweight to blank the University of Maine. The Mariners collected a string of forfeits to defeat UNH. The Mariners 165-pounder, Bradford Zajac, started his 2-0 evening with a 17-1 technical fall over the Wildcats William Stockwich at the end of the first period. He made it a 2-0 night with a first period pin of Maine's Daniel Walsh at 2:05.

First-year Marco Pantazopolous got the Mainers pin streak started in the win over Maine, decking Matthew Chalmers late in the second period of the 149-pound bout. Aidan Hashem followed on with the night's fastest pin, putting Hlib Kuzmenko in 19 seconds. It was the second of Hashem's pins on the evening. He pinned UNH's William Stockwich wrestling up a weight at 165 pounds in an exhibition.

Following Hashem's pin, Maine Maritime got two more first period pins from Evrit Roy and then Zajac.

Robert Mingo recorded a pair of pins over Maine's Michael Kleeman, first in an exhibition and again in the Mariners' run on the scoreboard in the dual match.

Maine Maritime starts the season, its last campaign before making the jump to NCAA competition in 2024, at 2-0. The Mariners return to action on Sunday, November 19^th at the David Butler Holiday Brawl hosted by UNH.
