WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming and diving competed at the Maine Collegiate Winter Invite over the weekend. The two-day event consisted of 45-events in which the Mariners placed seventh out of seven teams.
 
Day One Highlights

• Relay team of Carson Trout (League City, Texas), Jace Chouinard (North Fort Myers, Fla.), Fox Fernald (Portland, Maine), and John Markillie (Richland, Wash.) placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.20
• Markillie placed 19th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.39
• Trout finished 12th in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 23.77
• Aidan Burke (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed 21st in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time 28.46
• Markillie placed 24th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:02.49
• Chouinard finished 20th in the 50-yard back with a time of 26.64, while Markillie and John Driscoll (Newport News, Va.) finished 21st and 22nd respectively with times of 26.84 and 26.99
• Trout placed 13th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.78
• Oliver Cox (Washington, D.C.) placed 7th in the one meter dive with a score of 187.15

Day Two Highlights

• Relay team of Chouinard, Burke, Trout and Markillie finished 11th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:39.55, while team of Driscoll, Ponce Saltysiak (Bar Harbor, Maine), Ryan Maher (St. Helens, Ore.), Fernald finished 13th with a time of 1:45.88
• Saltysiak finished 25th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:46.09, while Burke finished 26th with a time of 4:52.68
• Markillie finished 29th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.74
• Chouinard placed 27th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.65
• Burke placed 24th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.34
• Trout finished 19th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.08
• Jay Creegan (East Brunswick, N.J.) finished 19th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:11.98
• Choinard placed 12th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.34
• Trout finished 21st in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.37
• Burke placed 21st in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.09
• Maher finished 25th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.93
• Relay team of Chouinard, Trout, Brennden Dion (Lowell, Mass.), and Markillie finished 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.52, while relay team of Fernald, Creegan, Driscoll, and Griffin Erb (Bangor, Maine) finished 13th with a time of 3:30.95

Up Next: The Mariners return to action on Saturday, January 13, when they travel to Biddeford, Maine to compete against the University of New England at 12:00pm.
