Saltysiak Paces Mariners at 55th Annual Boston Cod Fish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished seventh out of 11 teams at the 55th Annual Boston Cod Fish Bowl, hosted by UMass Boston, on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.
 
How it Happened: Junior Ponce Saltysiak (Bar Harbor, Maine) paced the Mariners putting together a top-40 finish, finishing 39th in the 262-runner field, with a time 27:04 on the 8k course. Sophomore Cooper Parlee (Brewer, Maine) finished 76th with a time of 28:29.
 
First-year Joey Valliere (Brunswick, Maine) finished 89th with a time of 28:56. Junior John Beres (Shoreline, Wash.) placed 156th with a time of 31:03, while first-year Logan Serpico (Lewes, Del.) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Mariners, placing 171st with a time of 31:39.
 
Inside the Numbers: Tufts University finished first overall with a team score of 23 and total time of 2:07:41, Yale University finished second with a team score of 37 and total time of 2:08:57, while Sacred Heart University finished third with a team score of 104 and total time of 2:16:35. Yale's Daegan Cutter was the top finisher on the afternoon with a time of 25:14, Tufts Ivan Appleton and Walter Wagude finished second and third overall respectively with times of 25:17 and 25:20.
 
Up Next: The Mariners return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Bangor, Maine to race in the Maine State Meet, hosted by Husson University, at 11:30am.
