Volleyball Wins 2023 Home Opener

CASTINE, Maine – Mariner women's volleyball won their home opener of the 2023 in a dominating 3-0 final.

Set #1
  • The beginning of the first set was close having four ties through the first seven points for both teams.
  • From there, the Mariners took over the set that included many connected points such as scoring points 13 and 14 from kills by Chloe Weeks and Katie Albritton.
  • The Mariners went on a three point run with a kill by Sam Urch, a service ace from Sydney Williams, and a kill from Weeks that brought the score to 20-13.
  • Point 25 for the Mariners was a kill scored by Ila Smith that won them the set 25-16.
 
Set #2
  • Hunnie Zuber-Stephens scored the first point of the set for the Mariners with a service ace.
  • After Husson scored their first point to tie the set, the Mariners scored the next four points and then held their lead for the remainder of the set.
  • To end the match the Mariners scored the final three points with a kill from Katie Albritton, kill by Ila Smith, and a kill by Sydney Williams to take the commanding 25-9 set win.

  • Husson scored the first point of this set with Ally Hadley then getting a kill for the Mariners to tie it up at one a piece.
  • Maine Maritime's biggest run of the set came from points seven through 12 were scored. This run started with three attack errors, then a kill from Sydney Williams, a service ace from Sydney Rich, and a kill by Sam Urch.
  • Sydney Williams got the final kill of the last set that secured the Mariners 25-13 set and match win.
