STANDISH, Maine--Senior
Ponce Saltysiak led the Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Runnin' Monks 8-kilometer Challenge after he won the individual title at the event hosted by Saint Joseph's College over the weekend. The Mariners had a team score of 53 points in the six-team field.
Maine Maritime had four top-20 finishers led by Saltysiak who crossed the finish line first with a time of 27 minutes and 30 seconds.
William Spaulding was fourth overall and the top freshman with a clocking of 28:20, followed by junior
Cooper Parlee (29:49.7, 10th) and sophomore
Logan Serpico (30:59.2, 14th).
Southern Maine won the team crown with 29 points and had five top-10 finishers out of 38 participants.
On the women's side, MMA did not score as a team. Sophomore
Sophie Sabet led the way with a time of 30:58.9 for 18th place, classmate
Lillian Diversi was 26th in 34:45.5 and junior
Lillian Verrill placed 36th in 42:22.4.
Maine Maritime will be idle until the North Atlantic Conference Championships, which will be hosted by SUNY Delhi on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Delhi, N.Y.
