                     LEWISTON Maine--The Maine Maritime Academy men's and women's cross country teams were here at Pineland Farms on Saturday when they competed in the Bates College Invitational. The Mariners were ninth with 276 points in the men's race and the women did not record a team score.
For the men, senior 
Ponce Saltysiak led the Mariners with an 8-kilometer time of 26 minutes and 55.7 seconds for 48th place out of 142 entries. 
Washington and Lee University won the men's title with 34 points while WPI's Avi Bissoondial was the individual winner in 25:01.5.
On the women's side, sophomore 
Lillian Diversi was MMA's top finisher on the 6k course in 32:26.4. She placed 72nd.
The host Bobcats swept the team (38 points) and individual (
Phoebe Pohl, 22:31) crowns.
Maine Maritime will be idle next weekend to prepare for the Oct. 19 Saint Joseph's College of Maine Runnin' Monks Challenge. The women run a 6k at 11:15 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at 12:15 p.m.
