Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine--A red-hot start for host Bowdoin College coupled with struggles shooting from the field for Maine Maritime Academy spelled a 78-33 defeat for the Mariners in men's basketball non-conference action at Morrell Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon. Maine Maritime drops to 3-2 on the season while the Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 5-0.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Senior co-captain Curt Heinz, the nation's leading rebounder, pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals and six points.
- Junior Josiah Dancy led MMA with seven points and he added five rebounds.
Bowdoin Highlights
- Ray Cuevas led all scorers with 18 points on 7-for-10 field goal shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and he had four rebounds.
- Will Logue added 12 points and was one of four Polar Bears with a game-high four assists.
- Matteo Cervone and Justas Bardauskas contributed six rebounds apiece.
How it Happened
- For the game, Bowdoin shot 50.8 percent from the field (31-61) while MMA was just 20.3 (12-59).
- The Polar Bears also went 14-for-31 (45.2%) beyond the arc, but the Mariners were cold from the perimeter (3-30, 10%)
- Bowdoin, which never trailed, started the game by making 4 of its first 5 shots for an 11-4 lead 3 minutes and 15 seconds in.
- After MMA managed to cut the deficit to 17-11 at the 9:50 mark, the Polar Bears continued to make shots and limit the Mariners chances to end the first half on a 19-4 run to take a commanding 36-15 lead into the intermission.
- In the second half, the Mariners' struggles continued as the Polar Bears held a 20-point-plus lead the rest of the way.
- Bowdoin outrebounded MMA 46-32 and outscored the Mariners in the paint, 28-16.
