CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's men's basketball team will play in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) postseason for the first time since the 2018-2019 season. The #4-seeded Mariners will square off with top-seeded Husson on Friday at 5:30 pm at Newman Gymnasium.
Maine Maritime has posted a 5-11 record in their NAC Championship appearances. The Mariners have made three appearances in the NAC Finals with one championship back in the 1999-2000 season.
"We are excited to be a part of the NAC Tournament this year, and I believe this group is well positioned to make a postseason run," said Head Coach,
Dan McNeely. "The guys have worked extremely hard throughout the season and have earned the right to compete this weekend at Husson. I am very proud of this group, and we hope to make Maine Maritime Academy and our supporters proud by our play Friday night."
Averaging 20 points and 15.5 rebounds per night,
Curt Heinz will lead the Mariners into the fray. He has consistently ranked in the top three in NCAA Division III in double-doubles this season. He has 19 double-doubles to his credit this season. He is tied for 20
th in the nation blocks in per game and is 21
st in total assists.
Husson has won the last eight meetings between the two schools dating back to a 69-63 Maine Maritime win on January 17, 2020. In the two meetings this season, Husson downed Maine Maritime 90-51 in Bangor. The last tilt came on January 6 in Castine with the Eagles escaping with a 61-58 win.
