NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Maine Maritime Academy's men's swimmers sit atop of the 10-team field after the first day of competition at the 2024 Metropolitan / North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Swimming & Diving Championships. The Mariners rolled up 377 points, with Baruch in tow with 303. Husson sits third with 281 followed by Roberts Wesleyan at 223.
The Mariners kicked off the championship with a first-place finish in the 200-yard free relay.
Carson Trout,
Fox Fernald,
John Driscoll and
John Markillie combined for a 1.28.05 to beat Husson's entry to the wall by .26 seconds.
Markille and
Jay Creegan collected first and third place points in the 500-yard free, serving as bookends around Husson's Alex Walsh. Markillie clocked a 4:53.53, followed by Walsh at 4:58.74 and Creegan at 5:00.14.
Trout collected second place points in the 50-free finishing in 21.46 behind Baruch senior Bennett Maczka at 20.80. Driscoll placed ninth in 22.77, with
Griffin Erb and Fernald also finishing in the points.
The Mariners had five swimmers score points in the 200-yard individual medley.
Aidan Walls and
Ponce Saltysiak combined for 47 points taking sixth and seventh places respectively.

Markillie,
Aidan Burke, Maher and Trout closed the night with a second-place finish in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:40.55. Baruch went to the wall in 3:26.53 for the first place points.
Racing resumes at Rutgers on Saturday and continues through Sunday. Saturday competition gets off the blocks at 10:00 am.
