Heinz Honored by Coaches and Writers

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy junior Curt Heinz was named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association's (MMBCWA) Co-Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-State, and All-Defensive Team when the organization released its End of Year Report.

Heinz earned the honors after averaging 19.6 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, ranking him first in the state in all three categories. Heinz also recorded career-highs in blocks and steals with 61 blocks and 30 steals. He had a state best 20 double-doubles and led all NCAA Division III in rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game. The junior center shot 55.2 percent from the field and 76.7 percent from the line. During the season Heinz scored his 1,000th career-point and recorded his single-game career-high with 41 points at SUNY-Morrisville.

Heinz led Maine Maritime to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) postseason for the first time since the 2018-2019 season. He was the NAC's Defensive Player of the Year and an All-NAC First Team selection.
