Mariners Beat Kangaroos to Claim #1 Seed

CANTON, New York – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse beat SUNY Canton, 20-10 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup Sunday afternoon. With this win, the Mariners claim the top spot in the NAC Tournament and will host Morrisville, SUNY Poly, and SUNY Delhi next weekend for the NAC Championship.
 
After a scoreless five minutes of action, Alex Stevens broke the ice with a goal off a pass from Will Arnone. SUNY Canton quickly answered with a goal of their own, before Jacob Hintermaier, Stevens, and Jayden Wilson each scored a goal to extend their lead to 4-1. The Kangaroos scored two more goals and Riley Morin ended the quarter with a goal to make the score 5-3. The Mariners continued being a threat offensively, scoring six goals compared to the Kangaroos three to take a five-goal lead going into the half. 
 
Maine Maritime came out and dominated the third quarter, scoring six consecutive goals from Sam Nichol, Wilson, Jackson Fitch, Brendan Reddington, Stevens, and Hintermaier. The Mariners were outscored in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late and the Mariners claimed a 20-10 victory. 
 
The Mariners outshot the Kangaroos 59-36 and held a 53-33 advantage in ground balls. Thanks to Bryce Crowell, Maine Maritime won 24 out of the 34 faceoffs in the game. 
 
Garrett Ruszkowski got the win for Maine Maritime, making nine saves on the afternoon, while Zach McCarthy relieved him in the fourth quarter, making four saves. Sam Servati made six saves in 30 minutes for the Kangaroos and Hayden Todd made 12.
 
With this win, the Mariners claim the top spot in the NAC Tournament and will host Morrisville, SUNY Poly, and SUNY Delhi next weekend for the NAC Championship.
