Men's Soccer Falls in NAC Opener on a Late Goal, 2-1

Aiden Burr notched his first goal of the season

CASTINE, Maine – Cody Robinson scored a late goal to lift visiting Thomas College to a 2-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer opener for both teams at Ritchie Field on Tuesday evening. The Terriers are now 1-1-1 on the season while the Mariners slip to 0-3-1 overall.

Maine Maritime Highlights
  • Sophomore midfielder Aiden Burr netted the lone goal for the Mariners.
  • Reigning NAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week sophomore James Baur led MMA with three shots on goal.
  • Sophomore midfielder Gabriel Toledo tied Baur for the team lead with three shots--two on goal.
  • Classmate Reagan Moynihan picked up five saves.
Thomas Highlights
  • Jamie Fischer made seven saves in the Thomas net.
  • Defender Oxborne Tettey posted a game-high four shots.
How it Happened
  • Maine Maritime got off to a great start by taking a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute on Burr's first goal of 2024. He took a right wing pass from junior John-John Dickenson and slotted the shot behind Fischer.
  • The score remained in MMA's favor at the intermission.
  • But in the 77th minute, the Terriers got on the scoreboard, 1-1, with a nice combination play that ended with Gilbert Maxwell's first goal of the season. Craig Coventry sent a long ball from midfield to Joshua Joseph on the right wing where he immediately sent a crisp pass into the middle of the box and onto the foot of Maxwell.
  • Robinson scored the go-ahead goal, unassisted, in the 84th minute.
  • Thomas outshot MMA 19 to 11, but the Mariners had the edge with shots on goal at 8-7. The Terriers also had a 10-5 advantage on corner kicks.
Up Next
  • The Mariners return to action on Saturday (1 p.m.) when they venture to Presque Isle, Maine, for a NAC road date at UMaine-Presque Isle.
