Box Score DUDLEY, Mass.--Senior quarterback
Dylan Abbott threw for a career- and game-high 267 yards, but host Nichols College had too much firepower as the Bison defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 63-12, in non-conference football action at Vendetti Field on Saturday. The Mariners fall to 0-2 while Nichols improves to 1-1 on the season.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Abbott completed 20 passes on 35 attempts with a pair of touchdowns.
- His favorite target was freshman Thomas Jackson who hauled in game highs of seven receptions and 173 yards and both TDs.
- For the second outing in a row, freshman Matt Gagin posted a game-high in tackles with 13, including 10 solo.
- Graduate student Jack Mottola added 11 stops including seven solo.
- Freshman Auston Harris rushed for a career-high 86 yards on just 14 carriers to lead all student-athletes.
- The Mariners had a season-best 392 yards of total offense, averaging 6.6 yards per play.
Nichols Highlights
- Shane Roberts led the team with five tackles and eight solo.
- Ian Snow completed 11 of 12 passes for 240 yards and three TDs.
- Darell McKnight led NC with 94 rushing yards on seven carries and two TDs.
First Quarter
- Nichols jumped out to a 28-6 lead after 15 minutes and never looked back.
- Trailing 14-0, MMA got on the scoreboard with 7 minutes and 47 seconds remaining as Abbott connected with Thomas for a 51-yard TD pass in just two plays.
Second Quarter
- Maine Maritime closed to within 28-12 at the 13:18 mark when the Abbott-Thomas connection struck again, this time for 46 yards. The scoring drive went 75 yards in five plays in 2:41.
- Nichols took a 49-12 lead at the halftime break.
Third Quarter
- Nathan Hynes scored on a 19-yard TD run to stretch Nichols' lead to 56-12 with 7:33 left.
Fourth Quarter
- The Bison wrapped up the scoring with a Victor Encarnacion eight-yard TD reception from Will Migliaccio.
Beyond the Boxscore
- Despite the loss, MMA still leads Nichols 21-19 in the all-time series.
- According to the school recordbook, Jackson's 173 yards are the fourth-most in MMA single-game history, surpassing 150 by Nate Duford versus Western New England; Sep 19, 2009.
