Cross Country Captures the Men's Race; Runner-Up on the Women's Side

WATERVILLE, Maine--The Maine Maritime Academy men's and women's cross country teams both had successful races during Saturday's Thomas College Invitational. The men's squad claimed first place out of four schools with 24 points, and the women were the runners-up with 49.

Senior Ponce Saltysiak led four Maine Maritime runners in the top-10 with a winning time of 21 minutes and 15.7 seconds on the 6-kilometer course at the Sukeforth Family Trail System. Freshman William Spaulding came in second in 21:32.2, junior Cooper Parlee was fourth in 22:03.7 and sophomore Logan Serpico finished ninth in 23:43.9.

Other MMA runners included sophomore Joseph Valliere (23:58.7, 11th), freshmen Caden Dussault (24:00.3, 12th), Trevor Parlee (26:55.3, 21st), Quinn Murphy (27:01.6, 22nd), Maddox Ryan (28:11.1, 25th), and juniors Jonathan Manning (30:06.7, 30th), Dylan Evans (30:08.9, 31st).

On the women's side, sophomore Lillian Diversi led the MMA way with a 14th-place showing and navigating the 4k course in 21:20.2. She was followed by junior Kylie Cantlon (22:51.6, 18th), senior Sadie Velozo (24:15.6, 20th), junior Lilly Verrill (31:02.4, 23rd) and freshman Elsie Leonard (31:15.6, 24th).

Next up for the Mariners is the Bates College Invitational next Saturday at Pineland Farms in Lewiston. The women's 6k race will get underway at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8k an hour later.
