Maine Maritime Bites Terriers in NAC Men's Basketball Action, 72-50

Senior Curt Heinz records game highs of 23 points, 20 rebounds and three steals

Box Score CASTINE--Reigning national player of the week senior co-captain Curt Heinz posted game highs of 23 points, 20 rebounds and three steals,  sophomore Jack Banks scored 15 and senior Markus Ramirez chipped in 14, to lead the Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball squad to a 72-50 dismantling of visiting Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference East Division action at Smith Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. The Mariners improve to 7-5 on the season and 4-2 in the NAC-East, while the Terriers drop to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Maine Maritime Highlights
  • Heinz, who made nine of 15 field goal attempts, also dished a team-high six assists.
  • Junior Josiah Dancy (5 points, 3 rebounds) tied Heinz with six assists against zero turnovers.
  • Banks made 5 of 8 shots including both of his three-point field goal tries.
Thomas Highlights
  • Jackson Ruelke led Thomas with 19 points on 8-for-14 field goal shooting, six rebounds and two steals.
  • Camryn Yorke (6 points, 5 rebounds) led all student-athletes with seven assists.
How it Happened
  • Maine Maritime, which never trailed in the contest, bolted to a 7-0 lead on the way to a 40-25 halftime advantage.
  • The Mariners shot 44.8 percent from the field (26-58) and held the Terriers to a 34.4 clip (21-61).
  • Maine Maritime outrebounded Thomas by a count of 44-32.

  • Heinz tied the school record with his 1,155th career rebound.
  • Parker Desjardins (6 points) has 998 points in his Thomas career.
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series 42-29, but the Mariners who are 18-18 at home lifetime against them have won the last two meetings.
  • Thomas is ranked second in NAC scoring offense at 80.6 points per game, while MMA tops the conference with a 70.1 scoring defensive average.
