Sydney Briscoe scored a game-high 15 points and led Maine Maritime with nine rebounds, and classmate
Erianna Moore added 14 points, as the Mariners picked up a 59-54 women's basketball victory over host Babson College at the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament at Staake Gymnasium on Thursday.
Maine Maritime won its fourth game in a row to improve to 7-2 overall to start the 2025 calendar year on a terrific note. The Beavers, meanwhile, drop to 6-5 on the season.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Briscoe was a tidy 7-for-8 from the field and she added two assists.
- Senior Makenzie Monzon chipped in nine points and seven rebounds.
- Moore dished a game-high five assists while contributing two steals and a blocked shot.
Babson Highlights
- Emily Flynn led the Green and White with 14 points.
- Samantha Reale (12 points, 13 rebounds) and Camilla Silk (10 points, 13 rebounds) both recorded a double-double.
How it Happened
- Maine Maritime held Babson to 25.0 percent field goal shooting to take a 25-23 halftime lead.
- The Mariners took their first lead of the night at 23-21 with 2 minutes and 12 seconds left in the second quarter on a Briscoe layup.
- The Beavers led 12-4--the biggest of the game--with 3:44 to go in the first quarter on the way to a 16-10 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
- Seven of the eight lead changes occurred in the second half and there were nine ties overall.
- In the third quarter, Babson built a 40-35 lead before MMA scored five points over the final 3:10 to tie it, 40-40.
- Moore splashed a 3ball to open the fourth quarter and then the teams proceeded to trade points over the next several minutes.
- Briscoe made a free throw to break a 52-all tie with 2:02 remaining and sophomore Hailey Blanchard (5 points, 4 rebounds) followed up her own missed shot with put-back as the Mariners took the lead for good, 55-52, at the 1:30 mark.
- Maine Maritime scored seven of the game's final nine points to seal the win.
- For the game, MMA shot 43.6 percent from the field (24-55) and outscored Babson 32-22 in the paint.
Beyond the Boxscore
- This marked the first meeting since the 2023 NCAA Tournament when Babson won 69-44 at home.
- But the Mariners dropped the Beavers to 8-3 in the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament to even their all-time series, one victory apiece.
- Babson grabbed a season-high 22 offensive rebounds as part of a 43-37 rebounding advantage.

- Maine Maritime will wrap up the tournament on Friday (3 p.m.) against Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which was a 69-58 win over Rivier.
