Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine--The Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team used a suffocating defense to breeze by host UMaine-Presque Isle, 73-41, in North Atlantic Conference play at Wieden Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Maine Maritime improves to 16-3 overall and 9-0 in the NAC after winning its ninth-consecutive game, while the Owls drop to 4-13 on the season and 3-6 in conference action.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Junior Evelyn Dagan made six of 11 field goal attempts--including 5-for-9 from the three-point arc--to lead MMA with 17 points. She also had two blocked shots and three rebounds.
- Senior Erianna Moore (9 points) pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and also led all passers with seven assists. She also had three steals.
- Classmate Makenzie Monzon (8 points) led all defenders with four steals to go along with six assists and three rebounds.
- Sophomore Hailey Blanchard contributed 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
UMPI Highlights
- Anaira Ayala led all scorers with 24 points and also led the team with six rebounds.
How it Happened
- Besides the scoreboard, MMA also dominated the boxscore: rebounds (50-26), fastbreak points (24-1), points off turnovers (19-8), second-chance points (17-2), assists (22-2), blocks (5-0), steals (13-8) and field goal percentage defense (.241; 13-54).
- After Ayala scored on a jumper to give the Owls their only lead at 2-0, MMA ended the first quarter on a 12-5 run to lead 12-7 after 10 minutes.
- The Mariners took control with a 23-11 second quarter to increase their lead to 35-18 by halftime.
- In the second half, UMPI never got closer than 14 points as MMA led by as many as 37 in the fourth frame.
Beyond the Boxscore
- Maine Maritime leads the all-time series 29-12, including a 10-6 road mark; MMA has won the last 11 meetings.
- The 41 points were the fewest MMA allowed the Owls since a 54-33 victory on Feb. 5, 2019 at UMPI.
- With the win today, MMA is 6-1 on the road this season.
