Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine--The Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team stepped out of North Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday evening, but experienced a very slow start at nationally-ranked Bowdoin College (No. 4 Women's Basketball Coaches' Association/No. 4Â D3hoops.com) in a 77-55 defeat to the host Polar Bears at Morrell Gymnasium. Maine Maritime lost for just the fourth time in 20 starts while Bowdoin remains perfect at 18-0 on the season.
Maine Maritime Highlights
- Senior Sydney Briscoe recorded game bests of 20 points on 8-for-12 field goal shooting, eight rebounds and two steals.
- Classmate Erianna Moore (9 points, 4 rebounds) led the Mariners with three assists and two steals.
Bowdoin Highlights
- Carly Davey led the Polar Bears with 14 points, followed by Maria Belardi with 12, Melissa Leone had 11 and Abbie Quinn, 10.
- Sydney Jones (8 points, 7 rebounds) topped all playmakers with five assists.
How it Happened
- Bowdoin, which never trailed in the game, raced out to a 31-11 advantage after the first quarter, shooting 66.7 percent (12-18).
- The Polar Bears shot 50.0 percent from the field (27-54) while the Mariners were at 40.4 (21-52).
- Bowdoin also had a 38-25 rebounding advantage and 31-15 in bench points.
- The Polar Bears, who led 49-27 at halftime, built as much as a 28-point lead in the third quarter.
Beyond the Boxscore
- Bowdoin leads the all-time series 11-2.
- Maine Maritime is 10-2 in the month of January, but saw its season's best nine-game winning streak snapped.
