HENNIKER, N.H. — Maine Maritime Academy football sophomore
Auston Harris set the program record for the longest rush from scrimmage with a 98-yard touchdown run in a 14-10 road loss to New England College on Saturday in Conference of New England action.
NEC (1-6, 1-3 CNE) struck for the opening points of Saturday's conference matchup, scoring in the first quarter to take an early 7-0 lead.
Maine Maritime (0-7, 0-4 CNE) cut the Pilgrims' lead to 7-3 following a 20-yard field goal by sophomore
Aidan Sullivan early in the second quarter.
The Mariners took the lead minutes later after recovering an NEC fumble near their own goal line. Harris took the ensuing handoff 98 yards to the end zone for a 10-7 advantage and the new program record for the longest rush in school history.
Maine Maritime carried the 10-7 lead into halftime, and both teams were held in check through the third quarter. NEC scored in the final minutes of the third to retake the lead and secure the 14-10 victory.
Freshman
Evan Arceneaux returned under center for the Mariners after missing the previous couple of weeks due to injury, finishing with 116 yards through the air on 14-of-23 passing.
Harris led all rushers with 195 yards on 17 carries, while junior
Noah Grass caught four passes for 43 yards. Sophomore
Will Keach added three receptions for 42 yards, and Harris hauled in five catches for 21 yards.
Freshman
Connor Cuba paced the defense with 15 tackles, while sophomore
Matt Gagin added 11. Freshman
Theo Blanke finished with eight tackles, and sophomore
Lucas Houghton tallied seven.
The Mariners return to action next Saturday on the road at No. 14 Endicott College, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
