CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball team opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday night, pulling away in the second half to earn a 94-83 win over SUNY Delhi inside Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners (1-2, 1-0 NAC) carried a 44-41 advantage into the break before outscoring the Broncos (0-5, 0-1 NAC) 50-42 in the second half to seal their first victory of the season.
Jack Banks led the Mariners with a career-high 32-point performance on 14-of-22 shooting, adding six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Drew Hamilton followed with a career-high 27 points, knocking down six threes, along with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Aaron Pensel recorded his first career double-double with a career-best 18 points and a career and game-high 13 boards, plus five assists and four blocks.
Maine Maritime's offense clicked throughout the night, shooting 58.1% from the field (36-of-62), a sharp 56.5% from three (13-of-23), and 90.0% at the line (9-of-10). SUNY Delhi countered with 45.8% shooting (33-of-72), including 35.3% from deep (6-of-17), and went 11-of-15 at the stripe.
The Mariners return to action tomorrow, hosting SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 p.m.
