LEXINGTON, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Saturday with a hard-fought 3–1 loss to Lesley University in the North Atlantic Conference Championship game.
The Mariners (12-7-1) struck first when sophomore
Hadley Stoddard scored in the sixth minute off an assist from junior
Abby Wong. The goal — Stoddard's 21st of the season — tied the program record for most goals in a single year.
Maine Maritime held Lesley (11-3-6) scoreless for the next 30 minutes, but the Lynx equalized in the 36th minute to make it 1–1 heading into halftime.
Lesley took control early in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute to take the lead and adding an insurance goal in the 60th minute to secure the 3–1 win.
The Lynx outshot the Mariners 18–7 overall and held a 10–4 advantage in shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Esa Thesing made seven saves for Maine Maritime, while Stoddard tallied three shots — all on target.
