Dagan's Career- and Game-High 24 Points Propels Mariners Past Terriers

Maine Maritime also limited host Thomas College to 27.6 percent field goal shooting

Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine--Junior Evelyn Dagan scored a career-high 24 points to lead all scorers, and senior Sydney Briscoe added a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, to power the Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team to a 65-46 North Atlantic Conference victory over host Thomas College at the Larry Mahaney Gymnasium on Saturday. The Mariners improve to 17-4 overall and 10-0 in the NAC-East Division, while the Terriers drop to 6-14 on the season and 6-4 in the NAC-East.

  • Briscoe went 7-for-14 from the field and also blocked a game-best five shots.
  • Dagan was 9-of-13 from the floor, including 6-for-9 from three-point land. She also produced two steals.
  • Senior Erianna Moore (5 points, 2 steals) topped all playmakers with six assists and she added eight rebounds.
Thomas Highlights
  • Sky Kubwalo led the team with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting and she had four rebounds.
  • Yaribel Pena (7 points, 3 assists) recorded a game-high six steals.
  • Holly Loring led Thomas with five rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.
How it Happened
  • Maine Maritime limited Thomas to a .276 field goal percentage (16-58) while shooting 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor.
  • Leading 53-44 with 5 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the game, MMA used a 12-2 run to end the fourth quarter and seal the win. 
  • Thomas trailed by as many as 20 points early in the fourth--53-33 after a MMA layup by Laney Lyle--before mounting an 11-0 run over a 3:57 span to get within three possessions.
  • Briscoe made a layup at the 4:43 mark of the opening frame to put the Mariners ahead for good at 11-10.
  • The Mariners outrebounded the Terriers 43-31.
  • There were two ties and three lead changes that occurred in the first quarter when MMA led 19-13 after 10 minutes.
  • The Mariners built a double-digit lead, 33-22, by halftime.

  • Maine Maritime leads the all-time series 43-12, including victories in 25 straight meetings.
  • The Mariners beat the Terriers, 64-36, in Castine back on Jan. 15.
  • Dagan's previous season high was 19 points at UMass-Dartmouth (Nov. 10) and her old career-best was 23 versus John Jay College on Nov. 11, 2023.
