Mariners' Three-Game Win Streak Halted at Mass. Maritime

Box Score BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.--The Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse team saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday morning with a 24-11 non-conference loss at Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Clean Harbors Stadium. Maine Maritime falls to 3-3 on the season, while Massachusetts Maritime remains undefeated at 4-0 overall to capture the 2025 Admiral's Cup.

Maine Maritime Highlights
  • Senior Brendan Reddington paced the MMA offense with a game-high six points on three goals and three assists.
  • Junior Trey Marcil (4 points) and freshman Tobey Lappinwho is the reigning North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week, also each registered a hat trick. 
  • Sophomore goalie Andrew Noyes--the most recent NAC Defensive Player of the Week--tried to keep the Mariners close with 15 saves.
  • Classmate Bryce Crowell went 16-for-36 in the face-off "X" and scooped up a game-high 12 ground balls.
Mass. Maritime Highlights
  • James Sullivan and Chilton Cabot both led all scorers with six points on five goals and an assist.
  • Ryan McDonough had five points (4g, 1a), Daniel Kane notched four (3g, 1a), Cooper Barrett three (2g, 1a), Cooper McIntire scored three goals and Joe Vricella passed for three assists.

How it Happened

  • The host Buccaneers took leads of 4-2 after the first quarter and 11-3 at halftime to keep the Mariners at bay.
  • Mass. Maritime raced to a 4-0 lead during a span of 4 minutes and 46 seconds, starting with the first of two goals in the opening frame off Cabot's stick at the 14:19 mark.
  • Maine Maritime got back in the game with a pair of goals by Lappin at 7:16 and 2:14.
  • But the Bucs scored seven of the next eight goals to take a commanding eight-goal lead into the intermission.
  • In the third quarter, the Mariners scored five goals to try to get closer but the disadvantage was too steep as the Bucs took an 18-8 lead.
  • Mass. Maritime went 3-for-6 in man-up situations while Maine Maritime was 0-for-2.
  • The Bucs also led in shots (60-40), face-off wins (21-17) and ground balls (41-29).

  • Mass. Maritime, which is a Little East Conference member in men's lacrosse, has won 10-straight meetings to move to 12-6 (5-2 at home) in the all-time series.
  • Reddington (21 points) moves into a tie with Marcil for the team lead with 10 assists; the latter now leads MMA with 23 points.
  • Crowell tops the NAC with 66 ground balls (11.0 gbpg) and face-off percentage (.656; 101-53).
