CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball program is proud to announce the addition of Abhi Mahil to its 2025 recruiting class — the first under head coach Cedric Gillette.

Mahil, a 6-foot-2 guard from Allen, Texas, was the fourth commitment in this year's class. He played for head coach Wes Watson at Lovejoy High School, where he enjoyed a standout career. Mahil graduated as the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers made and was named the team's Captain of the Year.

This past season, he helped lead the Leopards to a 28-6 record and a District 9-5A championship — one of the most successful seasons in program history. Mahil also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-District 9-5A honors.

Off the court, Mahil is a passionate sports photographer and runs his own business, "filmedbythree." When not competing for Lovejoy or his AAU team, Union, he enjoys spending time with friends and capturing the game through his lens.

Mahil plans to major in international business and logistics at Maine Maritime, joining a Mariners squad coming off its winningest season since 2002–03.

On choosing Maine Maritime Academy:
"I chose MMA because of the brotherhood I witnessed on my visit, as well as the opportunity to compete with like-minded people and earn an amazing degree," Mahil said.

What They're Saying About Abhi Mahil
Cedric Gillette, Head Coach, Maine Maritime:
"Abhi is a do-everything guard who can handle the ball, facilitate the offense and get buckets. I first saw him play with his AAU team, Union, and he lit up the gym with Steph Curry-like threes. One of the things that really stands out is his sports photography business — 'filmedbythree' — which is incredibly impressive. Maine is about to gain a top-tier photographer and a high-motor defender. Abhi verbally committed right after one of our wins this season, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome him aboard."

Wes Watson, Head Coach, Lovejoy High School:
"Abhi was the heart and soul of our varsity team and our entire program. He's one of the hardest workers and best teammates I've had in 32 years of coaching. His legacy at Lovejoy will be felt for years. He will make everyone around him better at Maine Maritime."

Kyle Herrema, Former Head Coach, Lovejoy High School:
"Abhi is a 1% guy — a rare type of player. No one I've coached has put in the kind of work he has. His intangibles make a true impact on any team."

Matt Johnson, Head Coach, Union AAU:
"Abhi is one of the most impactful players I've coached. He's a leader on and off the court, with a high basketball IQ and a coachable attitude. Watching him grow has been an honor, and his future is incredibly bright."
