CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball program is excited to announce its 2025–26 recruiting class — the first under head coach Cedric Gillette.

The third signee of the class is Drew Hamilton, a 6-foot-3 guard from McKinney, Texas. Hamilton played for head coach Fonzo Martinez at McKinney Christian Academy, where he averaged 18.1 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal per game during his senior season.

Hamilton led the Mustangs to the winningest season in school history with a 38-2 record. The campaign was highlighted by a TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) 4A District 3 championship and a TAPPS 4A Final Four appearance.

Individually, Hamilton was named the TAPPS 4A District 3 Most Valuable Player and earned All-State honors. He also reached the 1,000-point milestone at McKinney Christian Academy and led all TAPPS divisions in made 3-pointers this season.

When not playing for MCA or his AAU program, Puma Team United, Hamilton enjoys spending time with friends.

He plans to major in international business and logistics at Maine Maritime and joins a Mariners team coming off its winningest season since 2002–03.

"I chose MMA for the program Coach Gillette is building," Hamilton said. "On my visit, I loved hanging out with the team and seeing what we are going to build."

What They're Saying About Drew Hamilton
Cedric Gillette, Maine Maritime Head Coach:
"Drew was one of the best 3-point shooters in the state of Texas last season, leading all private school players in made 3-pointers. The first time I saw him was at a McKinney Christian practice, and he didn't miss a shot the entire day. He's not just a shooter, though — Drew has a great ability to play off the bounce and get to the rim or mid-range. He has an incredibly high basketball IQ and is an unselfish player. MCA ran a full-court press all game, and Drew's motor never slowed down. We built a strong relationship during the recruiting process, which ended with his on-campus verbal commitment. We are extremely excited for Drew to become a Mariner."

Fonzo Martinez, McKinney Christian Academy Head Coach:
"The amount of growth we've seen from Drew over the past two years is a testament to the dedication and time he's spent in the gym. He's a great leader — both vocal and by example."

Cliff Gaulden, Puma Team United Head Coach:
"Drew is a hard-working kid who lives in the gym. He was the first one in and the last one out at every practice this year. He was a strong leader for our program, and I fully expect him to succeed wherever he goes."
