Men's Lacrosse Advances to NAC Championship Game in Rout of Husson

Box Score CASTINE--Junior Trey Marcil pumped in a game-high 11 points on five goals and six assists, and freshman Tobey Lappin posted a game-best seven goals (8 points), to propel the Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse team to a 28-12 rout of archival Husson University in the first semifinal of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field. The fourth-seeded Eagles end their season at 8-8 overall.

The top-seeded Mariners (9-5 overall) have won five in a row and will square off against No. 2 SUNY-Delhi, a 19-6 winner over No. 3 Thomas College in today's other semifinal, in the NAC championship on Sunday. The opening face-off here in Castine is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Sophomore Bryce Crowell dominated the face-off "X" for the Mariners, capturing 27 of 36 draws and a game-high 18 ground balls. Senior Sam Nichol added four goals and starting sophomore goalie Andrew Noyes played the first 30 minutes and made four saves to get credit for the win.

Maine Maritime, which never trailed, spurted out to a commanding 10-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Senior Brendan Reddington (3 goals, 6 assists) scored just 14 seconds into the game off an assist from Marcil to put MMA off and running. Lappin and Reddington combined on a 2-0 lead with 13 minutes and 32 seconds remaining before Kiernan Field scored a man-down tally to get the Eagles on the scoreboard.

Then the Mariners scored 14 of the game's next 17 goals to head into halftime up 16-4.

Field led Husson with four goals and seven points, followed by Taylor Schwalje with five points (2g, 3a) and Sean Lyne had four (3g).
