KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's wrestling team opened the spring semester on the road at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariner Duals on Saturday falling 50-4 to Hunter College, 41-3 to New York University and 52-0 to USMMA.

In the Mariners opening match against Hunter, sophomore Kyle Stickel picked up win by major decision winning 13-3 at 184 to put MMA on the board with four points.

Stickel added to his afternoon with another win at 184 against NYU with a 12-9 decision to give the Mariners three points.

Stickel finished the day 2-1 overall, while freshman Takuma Steinberger dropped a pair of close battles, losing 2-1 by decision against Hunter and 5-3 against NYU, while sophomore Gavin Ripley also lost a close 9-7 decision against NYU.

Maine Maritime returns to the mat on Friday when it hosts the University of Bridgeport at 4 p.m.
