CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team turned in a dominant all-around performance Monday night, earning a 77-42 victory over the University of Maine at Fort Kent at Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners shot 48.3 percent from the field, controlled the boards with 47 rebounds, and capitalized on defensive pressure by scoring 21 points off turnovers. Maine Maritime (9-5) maintained control throughout the contest, building its lead steadily in each quarter over Fort Kent (3-4).
Senior
Evelyn Dagan led the Mariners with 12 points, knocking down 4-of-9 shots from the floor, including two three-pointers. Sophomore
Addison Forry recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint.
Freshman
Savannah Ferguson added 12 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc, while senior
Jacquelin Castro finished with 11 points on efficient shooting. Senior
Sydney Loring chipped in eight points as Maine Maritime showcased balanced scoring across the lineup.
The Mariners' defensive effort limited scoring opportunities and fueled transition offense, allowing MMA to extend its advantage and close out the game comfortably.
Maine Maritime will tangle with SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi on the road this coming weekend beginning with Cobleskill on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
