BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team swept a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against Husson at Newman Athletic Gymnasium. The Mariners opened the day with a 3-1 victory before closing with a dominant 3-0 sweep.
In the opener, Maine Maritime rallied from a second-set loss to earn a 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-7 victory. The Mariners hit .260 as a team with 53 kills and 81 digs while holding Husson to a .090 attack percentage.
Senior
Ally Hadley led the attack with 19 kills, 14 digs and 10 assists, recording a triple-double. Freshman
Lyla Annen added 15 kills and two service aces, while senior
Sydney Williams contributed 14 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Junior
Hannah Tate directed the offense with 31 assists and a match-high 28 digs.?
Maine Maritime took control in the third set before completely overwhelming the Eagles in the fourth, hitting .765 with 13 kills and no attacking errors in a 25-7 set-clinching win.
The Mariners carried that momentum into the second match, dispatching Husson in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-13.
Williams paced the offense with 13 kills on a .364 hitting percentage while adding four service aces and eight digs. Hadley contributed nine kills, and Annen added eight kills and 11 digs.
Tate continued her strong day with 28 assists, five kills and four service aces, helping Maine Maritime post a .215 team hitting percentage. Senior
Amber Cooklin recorded 15 digs and two aces, while freshman
Ava Davis chipped in two blocks.
The Mariners dominated from the service line, totaling 12 aces in the sweep. Tate sparked a decisive run in the third set with four consecutive aces as Maine Maritime raced to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
For the day, Maine Maritime combined for 89 kills, 134 digs and 22 service aces across the two victories. Hadley totaled 28 kills, Williams added 27 kills, and Tate amassed 59 assists while guiding the Mariners to their first two conference victories of the season.
The doubleheader sweep improved Maine Maritime to 2-0 in NAC play and extended the team's conference winning streak to two matches.
The Mariners return to action at home on Saturday hosting Lesley University for a NAC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
