WATERVILLE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision on the road against No. 8 Colby College on Tuesday evening.
Senior goalkeeper
Isa Thesing kept Maine Maritime within striking distance for much of the contest, recording seven saves while facing 22 shots and 12 shots on goal. Six of her saves came in the opening half as the Mariners weathered sustained offensive pressure.
Colby broke through in the 19th minute on a penalty kick at 18:03. The Mules added a second goal late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Maine Maritime generated its lone shot of the match midway through the second half when freshman
Sofia Nieves tested the Colby goalkeeper in the 55th minute, but the attempt was turned aside.
The Mules extended their lead with three second-half goals and came away with the 5-0 decision.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bates College at 7 p.m. for Amy Asselin Day.
