Men’s wrestling competes at NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, Stickel wins two matches

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's wrestling team returned to the mat on Saturday competing in the opening day of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Wesleyan University.

Sophomore Trevor Llewelyn competed for the Mariners at 133 finishing 0-2 on the day with both losses coming by fall.
Fellow Sophomore Gavin Ripley earned a bye in his opening match and started the day 1-0 win a win by decision 10-4 over Dylan Vanegas from Vermont State University Castleton before falling in his final two matches including a hard-fought 7-5 decision in his final match.

Freshman Nick Daniel wrestled at 157, finishing 0-2 on the day with by losses coming by fall.

Sophomore Wyndham Freeman competed for MMA at 165 falling by pin twice after earning byes in his opening two rounds.

Sophomore Kyle Stickel picked up two wins for the Mariners at 184, dropping his opening match by tech fall before rolling off a win by forfeit and pin in his second and third matches, respectively. Stickel dropped a hard-fought 17-13 decision in his last match to finish 2-2 on the day.

Additionally, sophomore Gregory Brunk competed at 197 finishing 0-2 on the day with both losses coming by fall.
This concluded the 2025-26 season for the Mariners.
