Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse team dropped a nonconference contest on the road Tuesday afternoon, falling 12–4 to the University of New England at Blue Bolt Field.
Maine Maritime slipped to 2–2 on the season with the loss, while the Nor'easters improved to 2-3.
The Mariners stayed within striking distance early, but the University of New England gradually created separation as the game progressed, using a strong second half to pull away.
Maine Maritime received goals from four different players in the contest. The Mariners' offense was able to find the net once in each of the first two quarters before adding a pair of goals in the second half, but they were unable to match UNE's scoring run. Sophomore
Tobey Lappin recorded two goals, while freshman
Ryan Parent and sophomore
Ryker Spear each added a goal and senior
Trey Marcil finished with two assists.
Defensively, Maine Maritime battled throughout the afternoon as the Mariners worked to slow the Nor'easters' attack while generating possessions in transition. Sophomore
Ben Kieu finished with 16 saves on the evening.
Additionally, junior
Bryce Crowell dominated on the faceoff finishing 19-20 with 13 ground balls.
The Mariners will look to rebound on Saturday when they host rival Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 11 am.
