CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse team dropped a home contest to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 13–4, on Saturday at Ritchie Field.
Maine Maritime jumped out to an early lead when senior
Trey Marcil found the back of the net just 51 seconds into the contest. The Mariners were unable to sustain the momentum, however, as Massachusetts Maritime answered with a scoring run to take control of the game.
Marcil led the Maine Maritime offense with two goals and one assist, while also collecting seven ground balls. Freshman
Ryan Parent and sophomore
Ryan Dunstan each added a goal for the Mariners, with Parent converting off a Marcil assist in the fourth quarter and Dunstan scoring late on an extra-man opportunity.
At the faceoff X, junior
Bryce Crowell delivered a strong performance, winning 11 of 19 faceoffs while scooping up a team-high nine ground balls to help generate possessions for the Mariners.
Defensively, sophomore
Ben Kieu anchored the Mariners in goal with 27 saves, facing heavy pressure throughout the afternoon.
Maine Maritime finished the game with 37 total shots, including 17 shots on goal, while battling throughout all four quarters.
The Mariners will look to regroup on Monday when they host the University of Southern Maine at 5 p.m.
