Women’s lacrosse beats Husson on the road behind strong fourth-quarter surge

BANGOR, Maine — Maine Maritime Mariners erased an early deficit and surged late to secure a 12–11 victory over Husson Eagles in a North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup on Tuesday evening.

Maine Maritime (4-3, 2-0 NAC) used a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring Husson (5-3, 1-1 NAC) 4–2, to complete the comeback after trailing 9–8 heading into the final period. The Mariners tied the game early in the fourth and then took control behind consecutive goals from junior Bella Scolaro, including a free-position strike that gave them an 11–9 advantage.

Junior Lillian Diversi led the Mariners with four goals and two assists, while junior Julia Wade added three goals on eight shots. Scolaro delivered one of the most impactful performances of the game, finishing with two goals and a game-high seven assists for nine total points.

Senior Rebecca Caron contributed two goals, including a key score late in the third quarter to keep Maine Maritime within one, and sophomore Caitlyn Lamb added a fourth-quarter goal on a man-up opportunity that proved to be the eventual game-winner.

After falling behind 4–2 in the opening quarter, Maine Maritime responded with a strong second period, highlighted by a pair of goals from Wade to even the score at 4–4. The Mariners continued to battle in a back-and-forth third quarter before taking over late.

Senior goalkeeper Ella Bowes played the full 60 minutes and made five saves to earn the win.

Maine Maritime finished with 22 shots and converted 2-of-3 free-position attempts, while also recording 17 ground balls and 11 draw controls.

The Mariners will look to build on their two-game winning streak when they host Thomas College on Friday at 3 p.m.
