CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Mariners nearly completed a late comeback but fell 10–9 to Husson University on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference play, despite a standout offensive performance from junior
Julia Wade.
Wade led Maine Maritime (6-4, 3-1 NAC) with six goals and one assist, accounting for seven of the Mariners' nine scores. She struck twice in the opening quarter to help Maine Maritime build a 3–2 lead, then added two more quick goals early in the second to put the Mariners up 5-2.
Maine Maritime took a 3–2 edge after the first quarter on goals from Wade (2) and sophomore
Caitlyn Lamb, who finished with one goal. Junior
Bella Scolaro facilitated much of the early offense, recording four assists, including helpers on two first-quarter scores.
In the second quarter, Wade scored back-to-back goals — both assisted, including one from junior
Lillian Diversi — to briefly give the Mariners momentum before Husson responded. Maine Maritime entered the break trailing 7–5.
Diversi contributed across the stat sheet with two goals and two assists, including a third-quarter score that cut into the deficit. She later added a key fourth-quarter goal during the Mariners' late push.
Trailing 10–6 entering the final quarter, Maine Maritime mounted a strong rally. Wade scored a goal midway through the period, then assisted on Diversi's goal to bring the Mariners within two. Wade added her sixth goal with :27 seconds remaining to make it a one-goal game.
Despite holding Husson (8-4, 3-1 NAC) scoreless in the fourth quarter and generating sustained pressure late, the Mariners were unable to find the equalizer.

The Mariners return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Waterville for a NAC matchup against Thomas College beginning at 5 p.m.
