Men's Basketball adds Bewley to 2026-27 recruiting class

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball program is excited to announce the addition of Kensey Bewley to its 2026 recruiting class, the second under Head Coach Cedric Gillette.

Bewley, a 6'6" forward from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, joins the Mariners after a standout career at Lake Worth Community High School. As a senior, he averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting an efficient 56% from the field. His combination of size, athleticism, and versatility helped lead Lake Worth to district and regional appearances while establishing himself as one of South Florida's top forwards.

Throughout his high school career, Bewley earned recognition as one of the premier players in one of the nation's most competitive basketball regions. He was featured by both the Sun-Sentinel and the Palm Beach Post as one of the top players in the area and was ranked among the Top 250 players in Florida in the Class of 2026 by HoopVibe. Bewley also finished his career ranked among the top 10 players in Florida's 7A classification and was recognized as one of Palm Beach County's top basketball talents.

Away from the court, Bewley enjoys fishing, riding bikes, and listening to music. He chose Maine Maritime Academy because of the atmosphere on campus and the opportunity to pursue everything he wants to accomplish in life. Bewley plans to major in Marine Transportation Operations at Maine Maritime Academy.

"We are really excited to welcome Kensey to our program. He's a player that I think fits exactly how we want to play on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he's a great connector who keeps the ball moving, makes the right reads, and has the ability to be the hub of the offense in the half court. Defensively, he gives us so much versatility. He can protect the rim, switch onto multiple positions, and his size and athleticism allow him to impact the game in a lot of different ways.

One thing that really stood out throughout the recruiting process was how hard Kensey works. He spends a lot of time training with a former Division I coach in South Florida who is extremely well respected, and you can really see the improvement he's made over the last year. Every time we talked to people about Kensey, they all said the same thing, he's a worker, he's coachable, and he's only scratching the surface of what he can become.

His recruiting process happened really fast. Both of us knew pretty quickly that Maine Maritime was the perfect fit. Kensey is a great young man who loves the game, wants to be coached, and fits the culture we're building here. I think he has a really bright future, and I can't wait to get the opportunity to coach him."
